Celebrating International Women's Day with Rebecca
petitePARADE honors two forces who prove that women can do it all. Influenced by women and becoming mothers, these two very-important-females have cultivated famed brands for women and children alike. Take note, this is what power looks like kids…
pP: Who was your hero as a young girl?
RC: My mom was definitely my hero. She was always my best friend and role model. She was the creative director at Seventeen Magazine for about 20 years and there was nothing I loved more than going to work with her and spending time in the fashion and beauty departments. I would also help her edit film and do her work every night in bed, and always looked forward to our time together.
pP: Describe one pivotal turning point in your life that has helped you grow personally and/or professionally?
RC: The most pivotal point in my life was definitely having my first daughter Scarlett - I launched my business the week she was born and I learned how to handle responsibility and determination like never before. I worked in magazines 8 years before launching my own business, and always worked tirelessly , but never knew what it meant to be fully invested and never turn off for a second once I had my first babies - loveshackfancy and Scarlett . When Stella , my second daughter was born, it was much easier to manage my time and figure things out because the path had been paved.
pP: How do you perceive success?
RC: Success is being happy both personally and professionally. Loving what you do - I have no real separation between life and work because to me it is one and the same, and I find inspiration and pleasure from all of it. I feel to me, I’ve succeeded when I find inspiration and love what I do every single day .
pP: What are some of your favorite female founded brands?
RC: I’m so excited to be opening our Bleecker Street store in the West Village next to some amazing female founded brands - Lingua Franca, Hill House Home, Bonberi. It’s amazing to see all these incredible young women opening up stores on the same street. So inspiring. My close friends who started DANNIJO and also Lisa Marie Fernandez first gave me the confidence to go on my own and do this! I admire so many other females who balance work and life and kids and all of it, and who are talented and distinguished in their careers.
pP: What have you been taught by fellow females that you can pass along?
RC: I’ve been taught that you can try to balance work and kids in your own way, and there is no right to wrong it’s really whatever works for you. I thrive off being busy and constantly challenging myself, and I’m a better mom the more inspired and determined I am with my career. I work hard and play hard, and my busy lifestyle is what makes constantly strive to do better and better. I’m forever inspired by so many women around me, and I think it’s just such an exciting and empowering time for all of us and the next generations. I’ve been taught now that anything is possible, you just need to keep your vision clear and listen to your gut. So that’s what I try to do everyday.
