In Conversation with Il Gufo at Pitti Bimbo 85
We got to chat with Alessandra Chiavelli, the CEO and daughter of Il Gufo's founder before their fashion show at Pitti Bimbo 85. Honestly, there's nothing like a pair of classic Italian sandals with a summer outfit to get us ready for the warm holidays. Sand was dropped into Florence's city center on a warm Italian night, it teleported us straight to Morocco with its desert-themed collection where stripes met solids...and denim.
pP: Ciao Alessandra! There is nothing quite like classic Italian style. Tell us about growing up with Il Gufo?
IG: Il Gufo philosophy is first, the respect for the child, so growing up at Il Gufo is a comfortable, natural, and educated way to grow. Style is important but more important is the capability of choosing from the wardrobe the right piece to wear for each occasion. The culture of being dressed in the proper way does not mean that you always have to be elegant. It just tells you when you have to pick a pair of jeans and a navy blazer instead. This is a very italian concept.
pP: We love that! Along the many years, what is your favorite Il Gufo style or item that is revamped in every collection?
IG: Let's say that the style has always been revamping along the history, it’s the creative DNA that doesn't change: it naturally evolves. We have a very pretty and functional spring jacket, husky style, both for girl and boy that can not be missed! from the '80s to 2017 that piece grants the same strong selling results and appreciation.
pP: What are your favorite 3 pieces from the SS18 collection you will show at Pitti?
IG: A new born set with brown stripy linen baggy pants + white linen ruffle shirt + brown short sleeves mini cardigan. A junior boy set with cinnamon stripy canvas bermuda, a graphic printed t-shirt and a denim shirt. I will for sure get it for both my little boys. Also, a girls dress in milk white lace.
pP: Summer is here! After Pitti Bimbo where do you go?
IG: After Pitti the business is vibrating in every direction: selling campaign, retail winter season starting up, next SS18 marketing plans, new stores opening, and the company general management, of course.
pP: What are you summer plans?
IG: In August, I will rest with my family in our 'buen retiro’ in Cote d'Azur. A very nice villa built up by my mother, completely surrounded by greenery. I just want to spend time with kids, good readings, sport and nice open-air dinings with friends. And jazz festivals, of course.
pP: Beautiful! We wish you a lovely summer and cannot wait to see the fashion show!
