'Cause MAMA knows BEST!

"I never received advice on parenting but I have learned that I'm constantly learning about life from my children rather than me teaching them which has been an eye opening experience as a mother."

My mom loved the book The Little Prince and she always quoted it. One of her favorites and what I consider to be great advice is "It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye."

"When you don't dress like everybody else, you don't have to think like everybody else." --Iris Apfel (my forever muse)...(A constant theme in my house is to first, find yourself, and then to be yourself. It's not easy to do...even in my 40's.)

The best advice I have ever received was from an educator. She warned me, as a new mother, to not stress if and when my child hasn't achieved a milestone at the same speed or timeline of another child, because, many times, it doesn't matter when they do it because at the end they will all get there and each child is on their own time and that's ok. We live in such a competitive world, especially in NYC, that I have tried to take that bit of info with me as my kids grow and I think it has helped them stay happy and me not stressed.

My love for art and fashion is a sentiment that I inherited from my grandmother, to my mother, to myself...

My grandmother had a big room full of antique objects and furniture that she selected while traveling through Italian antique shops. She had the eye for the detail, along with its authenticity, in all the art expressions. The same creativity has been passed along through generations, but re-interpreted with a different spirit.

That silk shirt embroidered by hand by my grandmother is now worn by my daughter Martina, who adapted it through raw cuts and new color applications.

As the great Coco Chanel one said, "Fashion changes, but style endures"

The best parenting advice I have been given is: "This too shall pass!"  because what seems so big at the time and seems catastrophic, we later realize wasn't that big in the scheme of things.

My mother once told me that in my life time best friendships will surpass family ties and I should be aware of them and cherish them for ever...
