Tennis Time at Court 16

In New York, you have many things: the best food, the finest fashion and the coolest concepts. For tennis beginners and enthusiasts, there's Court 16. The coolest, indoor tennis court and school is located in the hip neighborhood of the Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. We caught up with founder, Anthony Evrard, and got to know more about the only tennis club in the U.S. dedicated exclusively to youngsters #TennisRemixed4Kids

With reimagined facilities, a holistic teaching methodology, and a community built on empowerment and education, Court 16 is the premier kids’ lifestyle tennis destination! Check out our Q&A with Anthony below and visit Court16.com to learn more about joining for day or weekend or enrolling in summer camp!

pP: We love everything extra-curricular, how did you come up with the concept for Court 16?

AE: Since the age of 3, I grew up playing on court number 16 in my hometown club in Brussels.  Doing so helped me develop a "blueprint for life", cultivating qualities of discipline, focus, and fair play that have benefit all aspects of my life - both on and off the court.  I wanted to share the values that tennis can offer - along with the joy!  By creating a modernized approach to the game, curated and remixed for kids - and their families.

pP: NYC has very cold and very warm months - is Court 16 indoors, year round?

AE: Court 16 is indoors, all year, and always set to a perfect 72 degrees!

pP: Can you tell us about your partnership with Lacoste?

AE: The Court 16 brand has a strong emotional connection with the Lacoste brand, starting back to my own personal connection with the brand - you'll see my business cards shows me proudly rocking the Lacoste polo and holding my tennis racquet at the age of 3.

We feel extremely proud to have the opportunity to collaborate on a co-branded uniform as a core component of our Membership Kit for our first two years.  In addition to the classic white Lacoste polo which we've fueled with fresh Court 16 graphics, the kit also includes a bright Court 16-yellow Lacoste backpack.  One of the best moments for us is when we walk around Brooklyn and see our members wearing their Lacoste x C16 backpack.

pP: What's your advice to beginners looking to try out tennis?

AE: To reap all the benefits that tennis offers, learn the proper technique to play effectively, and to fall in love with the game, it is so important to start with the right foundation.  At Court 16, our holistic teaching methodology includes grouping children by age and skill level, maintaining a small ratio of no more than 5 kids to 1 instructor, and learning on USTA-mandated 36' courts, the ideal size for child athletes.

pP: What's the age range of kids at Court 16?

AE: We're the first total tennis experience sized perfectly for kids ages 3 - 12 years.  From our USTA-sanctioned 36' tennis courts (the optimal size for child athletes) and a 60' court for older, advanced players, to the restrooms, to our holistic teaching methodology, our club adapts to the kids, rather than the kids having to adapt to it.

So that's it! Now it's your turn to visit Court 16 - and after an hour on the court swing by C16 neighbor, Ample Hills Creamery for the freshest ice cream that'll surly cool you down.
